Authentic Bangladeshi Chotpoti Recipe – Street Food Flavor at Home

Ingredients

  • 🥣 Chotpoti with Beef – Ingredients
    2 cups chickpeas (soaked overnight)
    150 g beef mince
    2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
    1 teaspoon turmeric powder
    ½–1 teaspoon mixed spice (garam masala or similar)
    1 teaspoon red chili powder
    Salt to taste
    Water as needed
    Homemade Spice Blend (Dry Roast & Grind)
    Coriander seeds
    Dry red chilies
    Fennel seeds
    Panch phoron (five-spice mix)
    Cumin seeds
    Black cumin (shahi jeera)
    Cinnamon
    Black pepper
    Cloves
    For Chotpoti Mixing
    2 large boiled potatoes (mashed)
    Chopped onions
    Chopped tomatoes
    Chopped cucumber
    Green chilies (chopped)
    Fresh coriander leaves
    Tamarind pulp (strained)
    Boiled eggs (grated)
    Sour yogurt (a little)
    Puri/papri (pani puri shells), optional

Directions

  • Step 1: Boil Chickpeas with Beef
    Soak chickpeas overnight. The next day, wash them well.
    In a pot, add chickpeas, beef mince, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, and water.
    Boil everything together until the chickpeas and beef are fully cooked.
    Simmer on low heat to ensure the beef cooks properly.
    After about 40 minutes, add mixed spice, salt, and red chili powder.
    Add a little water if needed and let it cook well.

    Step 2: Prepare Spice Mix
    Take all the whole spices listed above.
    Dry roast them on low heat until aromatic.
    Let them cool, then grind into a fine powder.
    This will be your special spice mix for the recipe.

    Step 3: Prepare Tamarind
    Soak tamarind in water.
    Strain it well and keep the pulp aside.

    Step 4: Mix the Chotpoti
    Take the cooked chickpeas mixture in a bowl.
    Add chotpoti spice mix.
    Mash the boiled potatoes and mix well.
    Add chopped onions, tomatoes, cucumber, green chilies, and coriander leaves.
    Add tamarind pulp and mix everything thoroughly.

    Step 5: Final Touch
    Add grated boiled eggs and mix gently.
    Add cucumber slices and the remaining egg.
    Mix in a little sour yogurt and more tamarind pulp if needed.
    Finally, crush and add puri/papri for crunch.
