Ghee Polao: A Fragrant Bengali Rice Dish That Brings Comfort to Every Table

Recipe by Shaira Sharmin

Ghee Polao is a soft, fragrant Bengali rice dish enriched with pure ghee and mild spices. It’s perfect for festive meals and pairs well with curries, kebabs, and traditional South Asian dishes

Ingredients

  • Ghee Rice or Pulao Rice 1 kg, Ghee – 4 tbsp, Cooking Oil – 2tbsp, Bay leaf- 2-3 pcs, Cinnamin- 2 pcs, Cardamon – 3-4 pcs, Ginger paste – 1 tbsp, Salt to taste, Lemon Grass – 2 to 4 pcs, Lemon juice – 3 tbsp, Milk Powder – 1/2 cup, Warm water – 6 cups.

Directions

  • Take 1 kg of ghee rice, wash it thoroughly, and place it in a sieve to drain. Heat a pan on a low flame. Add ghee and cooking oil, then immediately add ginger paste before the oil becomes hot. Keep the flame low throughout this process. Add the spices, then add the pulao rice. Stir gently until the rice is lightly fried. Add salt according to your taste. Add milk powder and mix well. After that, pour in water to cook the rice. You may also add lemongrass and lemon juice for extra fragrance, although this step is completely optional. Check the rice as it cooks and adjust as needed.

  4. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave
it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had
    to tell someone!
