Shrimps with Small Taro Recipe – Traditional Shrimp and Taro Curry with Homemade Flavor

Shrimps with small taro is a comforting and flavorful seafood curry made with tender shrimp and soft taro root cooked in aromatic spices. Perfect for those searching for traditional shrimp curry, taro recipes, homemade seafood dishes, and authentic South Asian recipes.

Ingredients

  • 1 taro root, cut into 4 small pieces
    8 to 9 shrimp
    3 tablespoons olive oil
    1 onion, sliced
    1 tomato, sliced
    1 teaspoon ginger paste
    1 teaspoon garlic paste
    ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
    ½ teaspoon chili powder
    Salt to taste
    Water as needed
    Fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Directions

  • How to Cut the Taro Root
    Peel the taro root properly before cutting. First, cut one taro root into 2 pieces, then cut each piece again to make 4 small chunks in total. Wash the pieces once with water and keep them aside. Do not soak the taro root in water for too long.
    How to Cut the Onion
    Slice the onion into thin slices.
    How to Cut the Tomato
    Wash the tomato well and cut it into thin slices.
    Step 1
    Place a pan on the stove and add 3 tablespoons of olive oil.
    Step 2
    Add the sliced onion and shrimp to the pan. Sprinkle a little salt.
    Step 3
    Keep the heat very low and fry everything slowly while stirring well.
    Step 4
    Add the ginger paste and garlic paste. Stir well to combine.
    Step 5
    Now add a few slices of tomato first. Keep the remaining tomato slices for later.
    Step 6
    Continue stirring and cooking until the onion becomes soft.

    Add turmeric powder and chili powder. Mix and cook the spices well.

    Add the chopped taro root pieces and coat them nicely with the spices.

    Cover the pan with a lid and cook for about 2 minutes on low heat.

    Pour in enough water so the taro root can cook properly.

    Cover again and let it cook on low heat for about 20 minutes.
    Step 12
    After 20 minutes, open the lid and add the remaining tomato slices and chopped coriander leaves.

    Stir everything well and cook for another 5 minutes on low heat.

    Once the taro root becomes soft and fully cooked, turn off the heat. The curry is now ready to serve.
